Application Process

Senior medical students must apply to a four-year residency position at the OU College of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). 

Our residency program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and select twelve residents for the clinical base (PGY-1) year annually. 

To apply to our categorical program applicants need to do so through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  

ERAS applications should include:

  • Medical school transcripts (loaded by your home institution).
  • Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (USMLE, LMCC, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS, FLEX or NBME).
  • A Dean's letter along with three other letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your professional qualifications.
  • A curriculum vitae.
  • A personal statement.


Our Interviews start in October and end in December . Each interview session begins informally Thursday night with a casual dinner with our residents. The formal interview begins at 7:30 a.m. Friday and consists of a general overview of the program, presented by the Program Director, individual interviews with the faculty and chief residents, a tour of the facilities, and lunch with our residents. 

Selection Process

All residency appointments are made through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) process. The selection is made on the basis of examination scores, medical school performance, letters of recommendation, and the results of personal interviews. The faculty selection committee aims to recruit a successful candidate who possesses essential personal characteristics and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with both patients and physician colleagues in potentially stressful situations.
