The University of Oklahoma Research Initiative was developed to provide resources for successful scholarly activity by training residents in the basic methodology of clinical research and study design. Residents who are interested in patient-oriented clinical research are encouraged to request a four-week research elective. The course is designed for residents with clinical research interests who have not undergone previous research training. As scholarship and discovery are essential components to medical leadership, all departmental residents will participate in lectures about basic biostatical and article appraisal. Those who elect to participate in a research month will participate in a more-depth lecture series as well as, be provided additional support in developing a clinical question, identifying a mentor or project, quarterly research competency meetings, and project presentation.
