Dr. Mohammad Madhoun completed his medical degree at the Jordan University of Sciences and Technology in 2003, followed by the completion of an internship at the Princess Basma Hospital in Irbid, Jordan and a transitional residency year at the King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan.   In 2005, he came to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center to complete a residency program in Internal Medicine followed by a Gastroenterology fellowship. In 2011 upon his completion of the GI Fellowship Program, he was awarded the Richard F. Harty, M.D. Gastroenterology Fellow Award for Outstanding Fellow in Gastroenterology.  During his fellowship training, Dr. Madhoun also completed his Master of Science in Clinical Translational Sciences degree.

Dr. Madhoun is the local Site Director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program at the VA while also serving as a valuable member of the Program Evaluation and the Clinical Competency Committees.   In 2019, Dr. Madhoun was named as Program Liaison for the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program.  Since 2012-2020 Dr. Madhoun has been an active member of the Institutional Review Board for the College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma, serving as a member, Vice Chair and Chair.   On the national level he has served as an active member of the ASGE Research Committee since 2012, and in April 2020 he was named as the Chair of the ASGE Research Committee.  He has served on numerous committees at the VA, and due to his extraordinary efforts and accomplishments in clinical service, research, education and administration he was selected as the VA’s 2019 James F. Hammarsten Physician of Excellence Award honoree.  Due to his advocating for optimizing patient outcomes and his embodiment of the VA's I CARE core values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect and excellence, in January 2020 he was named as the Chief of the Section of Gastroenterology and Nutrition while also serving as the Director of Endoscopy at the VA.

Dr. Madhoun has a passion for teaching and has served as the Associate Director of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Course for 1st year medical students at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center since 2014.  He has been rewarded for his teaching efforts by being inducted into the Academy of Teaching Scholars in 2016 and in 2017 he was selected by his students to be presented with the prestigious Aesculapian Award for excellence in teaching.
