    • Principles of Pathobiology (PATH 6024)
    • Mechanisms of Disease   (PATH 6053)
    • Pathology Journal Club (PATH 6010)
    • Scientific Integrity (BMSC 5001) (direct admits)
    • Additional courses requested by mentor and/or student

Year 2, Spring

  • Electives
  • Journal Club
  • Lab work in Major Advisor's Laboratory (Special Problems in Pathology, PATH 6990)
  • General Exam
    • Written Component of General Exam - Submit NIH style research proposal
    • Reviewed by Advisory Committee

If successful proceed to

(2 wks after
written exam)

  • Oral Component of General Exam
    • defend Research Proposal

If successful in both written and oral components of General Exam

  • Advance to candidacy
  • Select Dissertation Committee

Subsequent Years

  • Laboratory work towards Dissertation
  • Extra electives
  • Pathology Journal Club

Committee Meetings:

  • Must be held every 6 months after advance to candidacy
  • Progress report to be submitted 2 weeks after each committee meeting to Program Coordinator
  • Annual Advisory report should be submitted by July 31 of each year

Defense:

  • Notify Program Director at least 3 months in advance of intent to submit
  • Set date
  • Submit reading copy two months before defense date
  • Coordinate with Department and Graduate College on defense and submission details
