Ajay Jain, MD, is a Professor and Division Chief of Surgical Oncology at the University of Oklahoma. His clinical practice focuses on the surgical management of malignant and benign diseases of the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct and stomach. He also offers robotic surgery for diseases that are amenable.

Dr. Jain earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Virginia. He then completed his general surgery training at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. As part of his residency he also spent six months at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. In addition, Dr. Jain completed a Clinical Surgical Oncology Fellowship and Three-Year Research Fellowship in Immunology and Oncology at Johns Hopkins. During his time in the lab he developed and patented novel vaccines and drugs to help the immune system fight cancer (immunotherapy), some of which entered into human clinical trials.

Before moving to Oklahoma in January 2018, Dr. Jain served on the faculty of the University of Maryland as well as State University of New York (SUNY), Upstate, in Syracuse, N.Y. At Upstate, he was the Chief of Surgical Oncology, Section Head of Hepatobiliary and Pancreas Surgery, and the Co-Director of the Gastric and Esophageal Cancer Program. During his time at Upstate, he was awarded the Upstate Foundation Award for Patient Care every year from 2015-18, as well as the Press Ganey Patient Experience Award in 2018.

In addition to his commitment to providing excellent clinical care, he places great importance on outstanding communication with his patients, their families and other physicians. Given how stressful a cancer diagnosis can be, he also is dedicated to addressing any nutritional, psychological, social or other wellness needs.
