The University of Oklahoma Department of Anesthesiology offers an American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA)– and Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)–accredited residency program designed to provide a comprehensive continuum of clinical education and hands-on experience. Spanning from the Clinical Base Year (PGY-1) through the CA-3 year (PGY-4), our program prepares physicians for independent practice while fostering lifelong professional growth. The curriculum is structured in accordance with ABA requirements to ensure rigorous and well-rounded training.

Our residency participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and offers 16 categorical positions per year.

Anesthesiologists are integral to the care of surgical, obstetric, and critically ill patients. Their responsibilities extend well beyond the operating room to include preoperative assessment, perioperative pain management, non-operating room anesthesia, and intensive care medicine. Reflecting this scope of practice, our training program is intentionally broad and experiential, combining high-acuity clinical exposure with scholarly development. We are committed to cultivating not only technically skilled clinicians, but also thoughtful physician-scholars capable of integrating advances in medical science into everyday practice.

We view residency as the beginning of a lifelong journey of education and professional growth. We seek candidates who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, strong ethical character, humanistic values, and the dedication required to thrive in a rigorous and rewarding environment.
