Hometown:
Haven, KS

Hobbies:
Watching movies with my wife and cat, trying new restaurants with family and friends, golfing, making pizza, traveling, video games, Anime

Favorite Restaurant in OKC:
So far, Jimmy B's. Having Whataburger nearby can be a blessing and a curse.

About Me:
I grew up in a small town in Kansas with no intention of becoming a physician. God has a sick sense of humor so now I'm on my way to becoming a psychiatrist (hopefully child and adolescent). My wife and I live in the Mesta Park area with our maine coon cat, Albus. Passions of mine include financial literacy among physicians and making the best pizza this side of the Mississippi.

Favorite thing to do in OKC:
So far, I enjoy going to Remington Park to bet on horses. I presume it will be going to see the Thunder play once the season begins.

Best Thing About the Program:
I cherish the relationships my wife and I have already made with people from our program. The people in our program have a good sense of humor where it makes seeing everyone on Friday's or for random lunches a lot of fun!

Emily Van De Houten, MD

Moorestown, NJ

Hobbies:
Video games, board games, puzzles, museums, true crime documentaries

Favorite Restaurant in OKC:
So many to choose from! Goro Ramen, Frida, Mahogany, Burger Punk

About Me:
Before coming to OKC, I lived on the East Coast in Washington D.C., as well as suburbs of Philadelphia and NYC. I'm currently living in an apartment in Deep Deuce with my husband and our two cats (Coco and Mr. Steve). I'm a huge fan of reality TV, especially the Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor in Paradise shows (this season is awesome!). I like to try different hobbies and have recently started peloton cycling- though I am very much a beginner, I have been loving it!

Favorite thing to do in OKC:
Going to the OKC Zoo

Best Thing About the Program:
This program truly is an inclusive community and as someone from out of state, I immediately felt welcomed. We have the BEST Chief Residents who have created an environment where I feel comfortable reaching out to them with any issues that come up and have already advocated for me several times (making my life less stressful!)
