Department of Pediatrics

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine is committed to advancing the health of infants, children, and adolescents through innovative medical care, research, education, training, and advocacy. We are the largest department in the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. There are 215 faculty members in the department spread across 16 divisions.

The faculty is dedicated to the scholarly delivery of clinical service, the teaching of students and house staff, and the development of applied and basic knowledge through research. The Children’s Health Foundation and the Department of Pediatrics have partnered for more than 35 years to support the advancement of research, education and clinical care for children. CHF has played a vital role in the development of the research and educational infrastructure within the department with the establishment of 36 Endowed Chairs.

Over the last five years, the Department has executed a strategic plan for research. This plan has been successful with an expected $2.4 million in research funding from the NIH in F22 which would put the Department in the top 60 of the Blue Ridge National Rankings. The total research portfolio for the department for FY22 exceeds $25 million.

The Department combines world-class facilities, faculty, staff, residents, and fellows with the friendliness and warmth Oklahoma is known for to create programs that develop outstanding pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists on an individual basis. The Department considers it vitally important to develop each trainee’s career based on his or her unique strengths and desires. Just as people are different, the Department believes each trainee’s experience within a program should be different based on individual talents and professional interests.
