Ri Chen, MD

Chen

Medical School: University of Central Florida College of Medicine

Hometown: San Antonio, TX / Houghton, MI

About me: Half of my childhood was spent in San Antonio, TX and the other half was in the Upper Peninsula of MI. For college and graduate school, I attended Stanford University and received my BS/MS in Biochemical Engineering. I then moved cross-country for medical school in Orlando, FL, where I met my partner and we adopted two cats, Momo and Kobe. We later couples matched into OU and we're loving ito so far! We're very happy to call OKC our new home.

Hobbies: Love to watch and play hoops (but really all sports); unwind with game nights, puzzles, animes, dramas and movies; be a proud cat dad to Momo and Kobe; find the best local eats and happy hours with my partner; just bought a house, so home improvement is now on the list!

Favorite restaurants(s) in OKC: I'm new to the area but so far I've tried and loved Tamishii Ramen House, Tokyo Japanese Restaurant, Ranch Steakhouse, Sheesh Majal, Szechuan Story, Pho Cuong, Pho Lien Hoa, Cafe Cacao, Ma Der Lao, Nazo Japanese Cuisince, Tucker's, Bricktown Brewery and Prairie OKC Brewery. Excited to try more!

Favorite thing(s) to do in OKC: Cheer on the Thunder and Comets; walk around Scissortail Park and Hefner Lake; sip and stroll at the OKC Zoo; disc golf around the city; movies, dinner and beer at Flix Brewhouse; lose money (but win memories) at Round 1; hang out with friends and family; buy things I don't need at Costco, Sam's,  Whole Food and Trader Joe's

Best thing(s) about the program: I love my co-residents, leadership and staff within the department. Everyone at OU and the people of OKC have been incredibly kind and welcoming. The program offers an excellent work-life balance, while still challenging me and supporting my growth as a psychiatrist. As the largest medical center in the state, the clinical exposure has been invaluable. And as a bonus, the traffis here is very manageable!
