Shouvik Chakrabarty, MD
Assistant Professor and Program Director, Department of Medicine
Dr. Chakrabarty is the Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. A native Oklahoman, he graduated from the University of Tulsa with a Bachelor of Science in 1995 and received his Doctorate in Medicine from the University of Oklahoma in 1999. During his time with the residency program, he has been a leader in various residency related improvement projects including developing and implementing a Quality Improvement Program, a High Value Care Program, and an ACGME-based pilot in cardiology. He remains active in residency education by serving as a faculty attending in the resident longitudinal clinic two days per week and attending on inpatient services three months per year. Dr. Chakrabarty has also received multiple student and resident teaching awards including “Outstanding Physician Teacher” in 2011 and 2012. With our robust hospitals and educational campus combined with an impressive and collegial faculty and house staff, Dr. Chakrabarty believes that the OU Internal Medicine Residency Program trains residents to become excellent comprehensive internists and gives the solid foundation needed to succeed in medicine subspecialties.
Outside of the residency program, Dr. Chakrabarty enjoys spending time with his family and cheering on the OKC Thunder. Dr. Chakrabarty met his wife while they were coresidents, and she is now a faculty member in the Hematology/Oncology section. They live with their two daughters in Southwest Oklahoma City.
