The Hospice and Palliative Medicine one-year fellowship currently offers two physicians an opportunity to learn and practice palliative medicine in multiple care settings on the Health Science Center campus. Major sites include the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System, OU Health and the Oklahoma Children's Hospital. While here, the fellows will have significant involvement in Supportive Care services within oncology practice, longitudinal clinic experiene, palliative medicine consultative care, community and inpatient hospice care, pediatric palliative care, and more. Our educational curriculum will offer steady review of topics expected on the HPM boards, which will most certainly help you in clinical practice.
Fellows will participate in a call rotation schedule at the VA, which is a shared call for palliative medicine and geriatrics. Both palliative medicine and geriatrics attendings are available for backup call when the fellow is covering. The fellow is expected to take 13 weeks of call during the one-year fellowship. Most of this call is taken from home after hours. Generally the fellow will round in person with an attending on Saturday during weekend call and take call from home the rest of the weekend.
