Geriatric Medicine Fellowship

The OUHSC College of Medicine, Donald W. Reynolds, Section of Geriatric and Palliative Medicine is dedicated to improving the care of older adults by achieving excellence in patient care, research, education, and program innovation. Our one-year, ACGME Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is central to our mission and our experienced faculty are devoted to ensuring that each fellow is prepared for a leadership role in healthcare and medical education.

Program Goals

  • To provide exclusive attention, training, and mentorship in Geriatric Medicine across multiple care settings
  • To assist with academic achievement and career advancement in Geriatric Medicine and other areas of common interest
  • To create board-certified Geriatric Medicine physician leaders that will improve access and quality of care for older adults


  • Seek out high-quality, thoughtful, future geriatric medicine fellows that represent the diversity of our community
  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based, clinical experiences in primary care and consultative geriatrics
  • Provide enriching long-term care and continuity within different nursing home locations, home care, and clinics
  • Quickly Integrate fellows into high-functioning geriatric care teams in multiple settings on campus
  • Enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the educational and clinical environment
  • Ensure a curriculum that includes graded responsibility and independence
  • Highlight the cultural and socio-economic differences of aging populations
  • Examine ethical and psychosocial aspects of care in geriatrics
  • Utilize a "teach to teach" model to ensure graduating fellows can continue to promote key principles of geriatric medicine
  • Stimulate thought towards improving scientific inquiry, quality improvement, and patient safety
  • Steadily prepare each fellow to pass Geriatric Medicine Specialty Boards on the first attempt

Clinical Training

This one-year fellowship currently offers two physicians an opportunity to learn and practice geriatric medicine in multiple care setting on the health science center campus. Major sites include the Oklahoma City VA Health Care System and OU Health. While here the fellows will have significant involvement in short-term nursing home care, home-based primary care, geriatric primary care, geriatric consultative care, hospice & palliative medicine, long-term nursing home care, and more. Our educational curriculum will offer steady review of topics expected on the Geriatric Medicine boards, that most certainly help you in clinical practice.


We are located on the Oklahoma University Health Sciences Center campus, along with seven other colleges. A skywalk connects the campus to include the Oklahoma City VA, OU Health University of Oklahoma Medical Center, OU Health Physicians, Oklahoma Children's Hospital, Samis Education Center, and the College of Medicine.   • Current copy of Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement Letter
  • Completion of ACGME Residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Copy of ECFMG Certificate Status
  • Copy of your medical school transcript
  • Copy of USMLE Pass for Step 1, 2, & 3
  • Two letters of recommendation in support of your training and clinical skills
  • One letter from your Department Chair or Program Director
