Interested in academic hospital medicine? Come join our team! We are seeking highly motivated, board‑eligible or board‑certified Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physicians with hospitalist experience to join a growing academic hospital medicine program. Faculty will have the opportunity to provide comprehensive inpatient care at the state’s premier academic health system while contributing to clinical excellence, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration within a dynamic academic environment.
Direct Care Hospitalists
Direct‑care hospitalists staff the traditional inpatient general medicine services, including both teaching and non‑teaching teams. Clinical schedules follow a 7‑on/7‑off model with 12‑hour shifts and an average daily census of approximately 12–16 patients. On the non‑teaching service, admitting and rounding responsibilities are covered by separate shifts, and hospitalists rotate through both roles to support balanced workloads, continuity, and operational efficiency.
Protected time for academic and operational leadership roles may be available for interested faculty in several focus areas, including:
- Quality and Patient Safety
- Clinical Informatics
- Clinical Documentation Improvement
- Physician Advisory and Utilization Management
- Educational Leadership and Faculty Development
- Operational and Health System Leadership
These opportunities are designed to support faculty career development, institutional leadership growth, and alignment with the clinical, educational, and operational missions of the Hospital Medicine division and the broader academic health system.
Oncology Hospitalists "Onco-Hospitalists"
The onco-hospitalists serve as the primary attending for patients admitted with acute hematologic cancers. Clinical coverage follows a 7‑on/7‑off schedule with 12‑hour daytime shifts. Onco-hospitalists work alongside board-certified oncologists and their fellows and APPs in a co-management model. In addition to their oncology‑focused role, onco‑hospitalists have opportunities to participate in the direct‑care hospitalist service and the resident teaching services, supporting clinical variety and academic engagement.
Cardiology Hospitalists
Cardio hospitalists act as the primary attending physicians for patients admitted with cardiovascular diagnoses. Clinical coverage follows a 7‑on/7‑off schedule with 12‑hour daytime shifts. In a co-management model, cardio hospitalists collaborate with board-certified cardiologists and the cardiology fellows. Cardiology hospitalists also have opportunities to participate in direct‑care hospitalist services and resident teaching services, supporting clinical variety and academic engagement.
Nocturnists
Nocturnists staff 12‑hour overnight shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM and, together with 2–3 APPs, comprise the Nighttime Hospitalist Service. This team is responsible for all overnight admissions and cross‑coverage for patients on the Hospital Medicine Service. On average, the service manages 10–15 new admissions per shift and provides cross‑coverage for approximately 150 inpatients, ensuring continuous, safe, and high‑quality overnight care.
