Alejandro R. Ruiz-Elizalde, MD, FACS, FAAP

Alejandro Ruiz-Elizalde, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Oklahoma. He is a Board-Certified Pediatric Surgeon. Dr. Ruiz-Elizalde earned his medical degree at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York City in 2004. Following his medical degree, he did a general surgery residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia from 2004 to 2011. From 2009 to 2011, Dr. Ruiz-Elizalde did a Research Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York, where he studied the effect of chemotherapy agents on intestinal motility and the enteric nervous system.

Upon completion of his general surgery residency, he did additional specialized training during a Two-Year Fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at the University of Oklahoma Children’s Hospital. Dr. Ruiz-Elizalde subsequently joined the surgical faculty at the University of Oklahoma in 2013 after completing all of his training. Dr. Ruiz-Elizalde has an interest in extracorporeal life support (ECMO), treatment of diaphragmatic hernias, treatment of congenital diseases of the biliary tract and childhood tumors, among others. In addition, he actively engages medical students and surgical residents in their education and training.
