Applications Banner

All residency positions are offered through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) in compliance with the rules and regulations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The specialty of Anesthesiology participates in applicant signaling, and we strongly encourage candidates to take advantage of this opportunity. Applications will be accepted beginning September 23.

Applicants selected for interviews will be notified electronically through the Thalamus scheduling platform. Interviews are conducted from October through December and are typically held on Wednesdays during this period. All interviews are offered virtually in two-hour blocks.

Residents are appointed through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). For the 2027 Match cycle, the program will offer 16 PGY-1 positions.

FAQ Banner

When is the Program Application Deadline?

Applications are reviewed the first day ERAS opens in September. Interview invites are issued starting on the first day and will continue until all interview spots are filled.  Interview season begins in October and ends in December.

How many positions does your program offer? When would I start working?

We offer 16 PGY-1 positions. These positions will start July 1st. PGY-1 Orientation will begin a few weeks prior to the July 1st start.

Do I need to submit a supplemental application?

We strongly encourage applicants to fill out as much of the supplemental application as possible.  The more you give us to read, the more we learn about your reasons for wanting to train with our program.

How do I express my strong interest in your program?

Signaling our program helps to show your strong interest. We also spend a lot of time reviewing applications and your personal statement can help explain your ties to Oklahoma, OU or the reason you would like to join our program.

What is the cutoff point of year since graduation?

There is no strict cut off point, but we will need information as to why you had a break between graduating from medical school and applying for our residency.

What is the USMLE step 1 minimum score?

We prioritize applications with scores above 230.

How can I meet your residents and ask questions about the program?

We offer 1hour virtual “meet and greets” for applicants to visit with our residents. Applicants will have 2 -20 min sessions with our residents from all classes and can ask questions about the program, training or Oklahoma City.

We also offer 2 virtual Open House events prior to the interview season that will allow you to learn more about our program and get time to meet and visit  with our residents and their family.

Do the interviews last the entire interview day?

No,  We value your time and do not expect you to sit in a virtual waiting room all day.  We will send you informational video from our Program Director to watch ahead of time at your leisure. Interviews are scheduled in 2 hour blocks and will have 5 – 15 min interviews with the Program Directors, Chief Residents and the Program Coordinators. We will provide applicants with their daily agenda and ask that you login about 5 minutes early so we can troubleshoot any technical issues.

Can I visit your program in-person? Are there “Second Looks”offered?

It is up to you if you want to make an in-person visit to see our medical facilities and OKC. The residents schedule “second look” tours and dinners for applicants interested. These dinners are typically scheduled in January and February. To maintain equity, program leadership are not involved with the event and will not know which applicants attend.

May I contact your program if I have questions after my interview?

Yes of course, feel free to email your follow up questions or request clarification on something we discussed during your interview. We know that choosing a residency program is a big decision and we want to make sure you have all the information needed to make the right choice for you and your family.
