The University of Oklahoma Orthotics and Prosthetics Clinic, a section of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation, provides a quality orthotic and prosthetic residency program. Each residency is a one-year program that allows a structured environment to build the skills required to become a competent certified clinician.
Residents will be exposed to patient care of all ages ranging from pediatrics through geriatrics in the inpatient and outpatient clinic settings. The resident will also have the opportunity to interact with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver collaborative patient care at the highest level.
Highlights of the Program:
- Opportunity to rotate and learn from Prosthetists, Orthotists, and a Pedorthist
- Didactic educational lectures from Certified Practitioners
- Learning from Certified Technicians and gaining technical experience through our on-site laboratory
- Orthotic Resident will experience a short rotation with pediatric orthopedics learning from orthopedists, orthopedic residents, and physician assistants
- Orthotic Resident will complete Orthomerica Helmet Training Course
- Prosthetic Resident will attend a weekly collaborative amputee clinic with a certified prosthetist and Orthopedic Surgeon William Ertl MD
- Prosthetic resident will observe one to two amputations in OR
- Opportunity to attend orthopedic grand rounds
- Access to ABC board exam preparation materials and online classes
On call requirements: The first phase of the residency program will be dedicated to hospital training. After the resident is deemed competent they will participate in the after-hours and weekend hospital call rotation. The on-call participation is an opportunity to experience unique situations that may not occur during normal business hours.
