Will the letters of recommendation for the College of Medicine suffice for the M.D./Ph.D. application?

How do I apply?

In addition to the letters of recommendation required for the College of Medicine, M.D./Ph.D. applicants must also submit three references from faculty who can attest to the research skills.

Consideration is based upon research experience, a competitive GPA and MCAT score, letters of reference, tangible attributes such as work experience, volunteerism and leadership, and intangible personal qualities that indicate a likelihood for academic and professional success in research and clinical medicine.

What are the deadlines?

  • October 1 is the standard AMCAS application deadline and for the OUHSC M.D./Ph.D. Program application.

The materials must be received by the dates stipulated.

What is the length of study?

The M.D./Ph.D. Program is a eight-year integrated program that begins the summer before matriculation with a 10-week laboratory research. The program format is set forth in Curriculum.

May I complete the program curriculum in sequential, rather than non-sequential, order?

The program is designed to integrate the two courses of study: Medical and graduate. Restructuring the design of the program to accommodate individual preferences is counter-productive to the goals of the program and detrimental to the students' concentrated study. The program format is set forth in Curriculum.

What financial support is available for the M.D./Ph.D. program?

Students accepted and matriculated into the M.D./Ph.D. Program receive an annual stipend and tuition throughout their training. Thanks to Oklahoma City's affordable housing and low cost of living, the stipends are competitive with, and in some cases better than, similar programs in densely populated urban areas.

Are applicants not accepted for the M.D./Ph.D. Program considered for the M.D. Program?

Yes. Both programs consider all applications with the initial consideration given to the request for acceptance into the M.D./Ph.D. Program. It is possible, however, to be accepted to the M.D. program only.
