General Surgery Residency Program

The General Surgery Residency Program at the College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma Health Campus, offers six categorical general surgery positions and one categorical-rural track position each academic year. All residents are selected through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

On average, chief residents perform more than 300+ major procedures in their final year. Prior to chief year, residents perform an average of 1000 operations and serve as the first assistant on an additional 200-300 procedures, spanning virtually all operations in general surgery plus numerous bedside procedures critical to patient care.

Interview Invitations & Process:

Our initial interview invitations will be sent toward the end of October via the Thalamus Platform. Candidates will have 48 hours to respond. After this window expires, we will use our waitlist for rolling invitations and will continue to evaluate candidates through the last interview date.

  • Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025
  • Monday, December 8th, 2025
  • Tuesday, January 6th, 2026

2nd Look Dates (in-person) :

OU General Surgery Residency's mission is to train compassionate, skilled surgeons prepared to lead in diverse practice settings through patient-centered care, reflecting OU’s commitment to advancing health for all Oklahomans and beyond.

Through a robust curriculum spanning tertiary, community, and rural practice, we aim to equip residents with the skills to excel as clinicians, educators, and leaders. Professional development of individual learners though mentorship, access to research opportunities, engagement with hospital committees, and exposure to a variety of practice models is a core aim for this program. In alignment with The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, we strive to foster inquiry, collegiality, and service that advances health for the people of Oklahoma.
