The Department of Surgery at the University of Oklahoma, College of Medicine offers six categorical general surgery positions and one categorical-rural track position each academic year. All categorical PGY-1 residents are selected through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). In our program, on average, chief residents perform more than 300 major procedures in their final year. In the years prior to becoming chief residents, residents perform an average of 1000 operations and serve as the first assistant on an additional 200-300 procedures, which include virtually all operations in the field of general surgery, as well as numerous bedside procedures critical to the care of patients.
Our initial interview invitations will be sent towards the end of October via Thalamus Platform. All candidates will have 48 hours to respond. After this window expires, we will utilize our waitlist for a rolling set of invitations. We will continue to evaluate candidates from our waitlist through the last interview date.
