Curriculum

The M.D. curriculum at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine blends rigorous academic foundations with immersive clinical training. Students complete ~150 credit hours across a four-year program

 Program format and/or delivery.

  • In-person at Oklahoma City or Tulsa SCM campuses
  • Preclinical Phase (18 months): foundational sciences, clinical skills, early patient experiences
  • Clinical Phase (30 months): clerkships, electives, sub-internships, and capstone

Didactic vs. Clinical Time:

  • Minimum of 90 semester hours
  • U.S citizen or hold a permanent visa at time of application
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 & minimum total score of 492 on MCAT
  • Most recent MCAT scores (valid for 2 years)
  • Required coursework (C or better):
    • 1 semester | General Zoology/Biology with Laboratory 
    • 1 semester | Genetics, Cellular Biology or Molecular Biology (your choice)
    • 2 semesters | English 
    • 2 semesters | General Chemistry 
    • 2 semesters | Organic Chemistry 
    • 2 semesters | Physics 
    • 3 semesters | Psychology, Sociology, or Humanities (any combination)

In addition, it is recommended applicants take the following courses:

The OU College of Medicine offers students two distinct educational tracks to earn a Doctor of Medicine degree: the OU Health Campus in Oklahoma City and the School of Community Medicine (SCM) in Tulsa. OU College of Medicine, Oklahoma City:

Located in Downtown Oklahoma City, the OU College of Medicine is the largest of the seven professional colleges on the OU Health Campus and is at the center of OU Health, the premier healthcare provider in Oklahoma, providing 148 various health specialties. With a focus on primary care and sub-specialties in medicine and surgery, the School of Community Medicine provides a unique and immersive educational experience.

Students at the School of Community Medicine gain hands-on experience in a variety of clinical environments, including large community hospitals, OU Health clinics, and community physician practices. This diverse training ensures comprehensive exposure to both primary care and specialized medical fields. Community medicine principles are seamlessly integrated into all aspects of learning at SCM. The Summer Institute, for example, brings together students and faculty from various disciplines for an immersive experience in community medicine, highlighting the collaborative nature of healthcare.
