Thank you for your interest in our Internship. Our pre-doctoral internship program has seven positions, begins July 1 of each year, and continues one calendar year through June 30. Applicants to the internship must be in good standing in an APA-approved doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology and must have completed at least two years of graduate study leading to a doctoral degree. We do not accept applicants from school psychology, social psychology, or industrial/organizational programs. The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences currently has three APA accredited training programs: Pre-doctoral Internship in Clinical Psychology, Postdoctoral Residency in Clinical Psychology and a Postdoctoral Residency in Clinical Neuropsychology. For Academic year 2021-2022, these programs are accredited as a Consortium between the OUHSC and Oklahoma City VA.
Beginning in the 2022-2023 training year, there will no longer be a consortium training relationship with the OKC VA. The three training programs will continue to be sponsored under a single institution (i.e. OUHSC). The psychology training programs at OUHSC have continuously been APA accredited since 1964 (Internship) and 2002 (Clinical and Clinical Neuropsychology Residencies) and we do not anticipate any disruption in accreditation as we make this transition. We have submitted our intent to apply for full accreditation and all program self-studies to APA Committee on Accreditation; they are currently under review. We anticipate having a site visit in late 2022 with no break in accreditation status for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Diversity, equity and inclusion are critical to the healthcare systems and training programs at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC). Therefore, we strive to create a learning community where interns and faculty of all backgrounds feel welcome and supported.
Interns are provided with exposure to training opportunities within a diverse patient population and settings. The internship emphasizes cultural diversity in all aspects of the training program. In addition to the focus on diversity within clinical, research, didactic, and supervisory experiences within the internship, a Cultural Diversity Committee offers additional input into this crucial area of training. Opportunities exist for trainees to participate on this committee with faculty, which allows for direct input on the goals of diversity-informed programming, didactics, and other training experiences that may be offered during the year.
