About the Department

The OU College of Medicine (OUCOM) Department of Neurology embodies the principle of diversity. Our faculty members are majority women, represent multiple cultures and ethnicities, and provide comprehensive subspecialty care for patients with neurologic disorders. Women comprise half the departmental leadership positions. In addition, our faculty members are campus and world-wide leaders in the effective implementation of innovative educational programs for medical students and resident physicians and the Department has active clinical research programs in many different subspecialty areas.

OUCOM Department of Neurology faculty members serve as leaders for the following unique clinical programs:

  • Epilepsy Center at University of Oklahoma Medical Center – the only level IV Center in Oklahoma designated by NAEC (National Association of Epilepsy Centers) – including an 8-bed epilepsy monitoring unit for adults and children.  
  • Comprehensive Stroke Center at University of Oklahoma Medical Center – the first Comprehensive Stroke Center in Oklahoma designated by The Joint Commission – including a 10-bed Acute Stroke Unit and 12-bed Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit.
  • OU Child Neurology – the largest child neurology service in the state, serving OU Health Children's Physicians, Oklahoma Children's Hospital at OU Health, and the The Children's Center Rehabilitation Hospital in Bethany.  
  • Oklahoma City Veterans Administration Medical Center – includes patient care and training in neurology, neurorehabilitation, and pain management. 
  • In our continued quest for excellence, we plan to continue faculty recruitment to improve clinic patient access and research productivity.
