As a joint venture with the Office of Access and Community Engagement, our department offers a Skin of Color Dermatology Visiting Medical Student Elective. This four-week elective seeks students starting their MS4 year who have demonstrated vision and commitment towards improving the health status of underserved communities. This elective will also focus on the unique dermatologic features of patients with darker skin tones.
Students must display a genuine interest in exploring issues of social determinants of health, population medicine, and access to care as it pertains to dermatology.
We aim to increase access, opportunity, mentorship, and exposure to skin of color dermatology for all medical students entering the healthcare workforce and to promote interest in academic medicine. Students will participate in daily didactics, clinics, mentorship, and scholarly projects.
