OU Health - University of Oklahoma Medical Center
University of Oklahoma Medical Center is the only comprehensive academic hospital in the state and serves as Oklahoma’s only ACS verified level one trauma center. This downtown campus provides primary health care to a large number of Oklahoma residents, but also is a tertiary care referral center for many of the surrounding rural and community hospitals. A state of the art, new patient tower opened in 2020 and provides approximately 450,000 sq ft of additional space, 144 additional inpatient beds (all ICU capable), and 32 new operating rooms. The original tower holds 355 adult inpatient beds, 78 ICU beds, and four additional dedicated trauma operating rooms. All orthopedic patients are integrated into the teaching services which include medical students, orthopedic surgery residents, and residents from other disciplines. Orthopedic services include trauma, upper and lower extremity adult reconstruction, hand surgery, sports medicine & arthroscopy, foot and ankle, spine, oncology, and general orthopedics.
The Oklahoma Children's Hospital
The Oklahoma Children's Hospital at OU Health is a 314 bed, stand-alone hospital focusing on the care of women and children. It houses Oklahoma's only ACS verififed pediatric leavel one trauma facilty which has 14 operating rooms. Residents are educated in all aspects of pediatric orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation utilizing general clinics and sub-specialty clinics including myelomeningocele, scoliosis, cerebral palsy, hand surgery, and sports medicine.
OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center
Stephenson Cancer Center is Oklahoma’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center. It was recently named Oklahoma’s top facility for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report in its 2020-21 rankings. Stephenson Cancer Center also ranks #1 among all cancer centers nationally for the number of people participating in NCI-sponsored clinical trials. Orthopedic Surgery residents get exposure to this world class facility during their PGY-3 oncology rotation. Stephenson Cancer Center is located on the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center’s campus and is within walking distance to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center.
Oklahoma City VA Medical Center
The experience at the Oklahoma City Veterans' Affairs Medical Center provides our residents with exposure to a large variety of adult orthopedic diseases and therapeutic problems. A large clinic population contributes to the exposure and practice challenge. In addition, a well-balanced degree of independence in a practice situation is provided for the senior residents with supervision by the VAMC attending physicians.The Oklahoma City VA Medical Center is located next to The Children's Hospital and is connected by a walkway. McBride Orthopedic Hospital
The McBride Orthopedic Hospital is a short drive just north of our main OU Health Campus. Excellent resident training occurs at this busy, high-volume private practice orthopedic clinic and outpatient / inpatient hospital. Exposure to a wide variety of general and subspecialty orthopedics is provided on these rotations including ankle-foot surgery, adult reconstruction, and elective sports medicine. Total joint arthroplasties of the hip and knees as well as complex revision arthroplasties are performed on a regular basis. Many of the orthopedic surgeons at McBride Orthopedic Hospital are very active on our clinical faculty, and the hospital is associated with multiple rheumatologists that provide extensive exposure to arthritis care.
SSM St. Anthony - Bone & Joint Hospital
SSM Health Bone & Joint Hospital at St. Anthony is committed solely to helping patients with simple to complex orthopedic surgery solutions. Our residents will encounter a wide range of services including hip and knee replacement, spine surgery, pain management, and sports medicine while on their rotations at SSM.
Integris Baptist Medical Center
Residents will complete a comprehensive wound-care rotation in plastic surgery during their PGY-1 year with clinical faculty members at nearby Integris Baptist Medical Center.
