* A writing-intensive course should include instructional objectives and graded assignments that are designed to enhance college-level writing skills.
1. (AMCAS) The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine participates in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS), also referred to as the primary application. Persons applying to the MD program should begin the application process during the summer a year in advance of the time they wish to begin medical school.
2. (MCAT) All applicants are required to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). We will use an applicant's most recent MCAT® score which must be taken no later than the fall of the year in which the application is filed.
3. (LETTERS of EVALUATION) required to complete an application. Three (3) letters of evaluation should be sent from individuals who are familiar with the applicant's recent scientific work, study experience, or professional experience. If a pre-medical committee letter is received, it will count as two (2) of these three (3) letters. The letters should be submitted through AMCAS Letters Service as part of the AMCAS application. Additional letters of recommendation may also be submitted but are not required. We accept up to eight letters total.
4. (AAMC PREview™ ) will be recommended, not required, starting in the 2026-2027 cycle. The scores will be used by the admissions board as part of the mission-driven review process.
5. (SECONDARY APPLICATION) Once we receive your primary application from AMCAS, applicants selected for further consideration will receive a link to our secondary application. Here applicants will indicate which track, or both tracks, they are interested in. Applicants interested in applying to the Tulsa track will be required to complete additional questions specific to the Tulsa campus.
A nonrefundable application fee of $85.00 is required to be submitted electronically with the submission of the secondary application. (Applicants receiving an AMCAS fee waiver will also receive a University of Oklahoma College of Medicine application fee waiver.)
6. (MD/PhD Dual Degree Program) applicants will be contacted separately and provided with information regarding the MD/PhD supplemental application.
----------------
Applicants currently enrolled in a graduate degree program are required to submit a letter from the program director or chair of the department which states the applicant is in good standing and that they are supportive of the application. Please have these letters emailed to adminmed@ouhsc.edu.
Admissions decisions are based on an applicant’s indications and probabilities of successfully completing medical school, intellectual ability, academic achievement, character, motivation, and maturity. The assessment utilizes college grades, MCAT scores, letters of recommendation, personal statements, and results of the required interview.
Intellectual ability and academic achievement alone are not sufficient to assure the professional development and commitment required of a physician. Traits of personality, maturity, interesting or diverse backgrounds, and character are necessary to communicate warmth and compassion and to work effectively in a profession dependent upon interpersonal relationships, cross cultural appreciation, and high ethical behavior. To accomplish the required objectives, candidates for the M.D. degree must have specific abilities and skills.
Class of 2029 had a science grade point average of 3.74 and an average total MCAT of 510.
TWO EDUCATIONAL TRACKS
The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine offers students two distinct educational tracks to earn a Doctor of Medicine degree: the OU Health Campus in Oklahoma City and the School of Community Medicine (SCM) in Tulsa. Both tracks equip students with the comprehensive knowledge and skills required to excel as well-rounded physicians. Each track offers unique and enriching opportunities.
__________________________________________________________________
1. Applicants selected for final consideration will be interviewed VIRTUALLY between August and January by members of the Admissions Board which is comprised of faculty, volunteer faculty, practicing physicians, and fourth year medical students who make all admissions recommendations.
2. All successful applicants will first interview with the OKC track. If the interview is successful and they wish to also apply to the Tulsa track, they will then interview with Tulsa second.
3. Useful document if you're invited to an interview: Prerequisite Course List
It should be emphasized that an invitation for an interview does not signify acceptance for admission.
Current medical students (enrolled at LCME-accredited medical schools, i.e. MD) who have successfully passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Exam wishing to transfer into the OU College of Medicine MD Program should contact adminmed@ouhsc.edu for an application. There is a charge to submit the application.
Medical student transfers are subject to the OU College of Medicine Transfer Policy (#208)
The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine will accept Pass/Fail grades for courses (including prerequisites) taken Spring semester 2020.
For clarification: We will accept a Passing (P) grade Spring 2020 where typically, for all other semesters, Pass/Fail grading, advanced placement, and CLEP courses are accepted only if a subsequent higher course is taken for a grade.
