Pediatric Neurosurgery

The University of Oklahoma College of Medicine Department of Neurosurgery is pleased to offer an exceptional experience for qualified applicants in the AANS/CNS domestic or international traveling pediatric neurosurgery fellowship program.  Primary clinical experience for traveling pediatric neurosurgery fellows  is at Oklahoma Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Oklahoma Children’s Hospital is a 246-bed free-standing children’s hospital within the OU Health system; it is the only-free-standing children’s hospital in the state of Oklahoma servicing a pediatric population of approximately 1.5 million.   The hospital is an ACS-verified Level I pediatric trauma center, and features an AAP-verified Level IV NICU.

Traveling fellows will be exposed to the full range of pediatric neurosurgical procedures including, but not limited to, hydrocephalus, ventricular endoscopy, epilepsy surgery, brain and spine tumors, open and endoscopic craniofacial surgery, trauma, spasticity, spine, spinal dysraphism and other congenital abnormalities, and brachial plexus.  The traveling fellow will be integrated into the service, active in all aspects of education and patient care, including rounding, seeing consults, operating, and attending educational conferences.  There will be opportunities to conduct clinical and quality improvement research utilizing our real-time database and to present at internal conferences as well.
