The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine provides emergency care across a diverse network of emergency departments within OU Health. From Oklahoma’s flagship Level I Trauma Center at OU Health University of Oklahoma Medical Center to community-based emergency care in Edmond Medical Center and convenient freestanding emergency departments in South Oklahoma City and Yukon, our teams bring the expertise, compassion, and academic excellence of the University of Oklahoma to patients wherever they enter the health system.

Our emergency departments serve as the front door to OU Health, providing care 24 hours a day, seven days a week for patients with conditions ranging from common illnesses and injuries to the most complex and life-threatening emergencies. Across all locations, our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, technicians, and staff work together to deliver timely, evidence-based care while treating every patient with dignity and respect.

As an academic department, our mission extends beyond clinical care. Our emergency departments are environments for education, innovation, research, quality improvement, and the development of the next generation of emergency physicians and healthcare professionals.

OU Health University of Oklahoma Medical Center is the flagship adult academic hospital of OU Health and the primary tertiary and quaternary referral center for patients throughout Oklahoma and the surrounding region.

The Emergency Department at University of Oklahoma Medical Center provides comprehensive emergency care for adults with medical, surgical, neurologic, cardiovascular, traumatic, and other complex conditions. The department is an integral component of Oklahoma's leading Level I Trauma Center, providing immediate access to multidisciplinary specialists, advanced imaging, critical care, operating rooms, and other resources required to care for the most seriously injured and critically ill patients.

The Emergency Department also serves as a major entry point to OU Health's comprehensive specialty services, including advanced stroke and neurosciences care, cardiovascular services, transplant medicine, cancer care, surgery, and critical care.

A Center for Academic Emergency Medicine

The University of Oklahoma Medical Center Emergency Department is the principal academic clinical environment for the Department of Emergency Medicine. Faculty physicians work alongside fellows, residents, medical students, and other learners while caring for patients with the full spectrum of emergency conditions.

The department's academic mission is closely integrated with clinical care, allowing learners and faculty to translate advances in emergency medicine, resuscitation, trauma, critical care, and health systems science directly into practice.

OU Health Edmond Medical Center provides full-service community hospital care to patients in Edmond and surrounding communities, with the resources and expertise of Oklahoma's academic health system behind it.

The Edmond Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day and provides evaluation and treatment for a broad range of acute medical and surgical conditions, illnesses, and injuries. The hospital offers access to diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, surgery, orthopedics, pulmonary and respiratory care, and other inpatient and specialty services.

Edmond Medical Center also has strengths in caring for older adults. OU Health describes the emergency department as senior-friendly, with resources designed to address the unique needs of older patients.

Community Care with Academic Connections

The Edmond Emergency Department represents an important component of the Department of Emergency Medicine's clinical mission. It provides an opportunity to deliver high-quality emergency care in a community hospital environment while maintaining a direct connection to the expertise, specialty services, education, and resources of OU Health's academic medical center.

The OU Health ER & Urgent Care in South Oklahoma City extends OU Health emergency services into one of the fastest-growing areas of the Oklahoma City metropolitan region.

This freestanding facility combines the convenience of urgent care with the capabilities of a full-service emergency department. The emergency department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while urgent care services are available daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The facility provides on-site laboratory services and advanced diagnostic capabilities, including CT, X-ray, and ultrasound. This model allows patients to receive emergency evaluation and treatment close to home while providing an alternative for conditions that can appropriately be managed through urgent care.

For the Department of Emergency Medicine, freestanding emergency departments are an important part of developing a modern, accessible emergency care system—bringing the expertise of OU Health emergency medicine closer to the communities we serve.

The OU Health ER & Urgent Care in Yukon extends OU Health's emergency medicine services to patients in Yukon and the rapidly growing communities of western Oklahoma City.

The facility provides a full-service emergency department that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, together with urgent care services available daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The facility includes on-site laboratory services and advanced diagnostic imaging, including CT, X-ray, and ultrasound. Patients can therefore receive emergency evaluations, diagnostic testing, and treatment in a convenient community setting while remaining connected to the broader OU Health system.

The Yukon location demonstrates the Department of Emergency Medicine's commitment to making high-quality emergency care accessible beyond the walls of the academic medical center.
