Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine located on the OU Health Sciences campus in Oklahoma City!
The Department of Emergency Medicine was created in September 2024, and with humility and excitement, I accepted the role of Inaugural Chair of Emergency Medicine and Clinical Service of Emergency Medicine at OU Health in March 2025. During my recruitment and beyond, I was amazed with the kindness, collegiality, and pioneering spirit of the people of Oklahoma, and I feel blessed to be a part of this community.
We serve as the true “front door” of our hospital as most of the patients admitted to the OU Health University of Oklahoma Medical Center transit through the emergency department. In addition, we care for many patients at OU Edmond Medical Center and at our free-standing emergency departments. Often being the first contact, it is our responsibility to reflect the mission and values of our health system, and we will strive to provide safe and high-quality care for our patients while treating them with dignity and respect. It is the core of what our department must be about. In addition to providing excellent clinical care, our department will be enthusiastic educators and seek scholarly ways to advance the science of Emergency Medicine. This is the way of an academic medical center.
The Oklahoma state motto is Labor Omnia Vincit which means “work conquers all things,” which will also reflect the faculty, administrative staff, and learners of the Department of Emergency Medicine as we seek to honor the tripartite mission of academic medicine. It is a team effort and everyone’s contribution matters.
