The PGY-5 year is the inflection point in residency training. PGY-5 year is spent as a senior resident at OUMC and the VA Hospital.
This year of training is designed to be with less clinical burden such that the resident may complete research that was started in the PGY-4 year. The intent is to allow the resident to apply for other grants, such as an NIH K award, prepare applications for competitive fellowships, or begin the post-residency job search.
