Application:
Should my ERAS application be submitted in the first week to be fully considered? No. However, we strongly encourage applicants to submit their ERAS applications as early as possible. Our team will begin reviewing applications on September 23, 2026. Our program adheres to the universal pathology interview offer release date of October 15, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. CST.
Is there a cut-off for years since graduation? No, we do not have a cut-off date for years since graduation, and we encourage anyone interested to apply. However, we do look for applicants who have maintained continuous, active engagement in clinical practice or medical education since completing their degree.
How many letters of recommendation are required? We require three letters of recommendation, with at least one letter provided by a pathologist.
Interview Specifics:
How long will the interview last? The interview process will take approximately 4 hours. We will also host an informal “Meet and Greet” via Zoom the evening before your interview, which lasts about one hour.
What should I wear? Dress professionally and comfortably.
Should I interview early to show "interest" or interview late to "not be forgotten"? Please schedule your interview at your convenience. The timing of your interview has no bearing on our evaluation or ranking process.
USMLE / COMLEX:
Is there a maximum number of attempts you accept for USMLE / COMLEX? You must pass your exams within 3 attempts. After 3 failed attempts, you cannot obtain a medical license in the State of Oklahoma. This is a state licensing requirement, not a University of Oklahoma policy.
Do you have a minimum score requirement? We do not have a minimum score requirement for USMLE or COMLEX exams. We review every application holistically, considering exam scores alongside all other materials in your application.
Is Step 2 CK or Level 2 CE score required at time of application? While not strictly required at the time of submission, we strongly prefer to see USMLE Step 2 CK or COMLEX Level 2 CE scores as early as possible. We encourage applicants to complete these exams early in the cycle.
International Applicants:
Do you accept International Medical Graduates? Yes, we welcome and encourage International Medical Graduates to apply. As with all candidates, we love to see what specific aspects of our program appeal to you in your application materials.
What type of visas can you sponsor for International Medical Graduates? We sponsor J-1 visas. If matched, you must have an active J-1 visa before attending Intern Orientation in late-June, prior to your official July 1 start date.
Do you require an ECFMG Certificate to interview? An ECFMG certificate is not required to receive an interview invitation. However, a valid certificate must be provided prior to beginning your residency.
Are there U.S. clinical experience requirements (for IMG’s) to apply? No. The University of Oklahoma does not require U.S. clinical experience to apply or be considered for our residency program.
