How to Apply

Applicants must meet ACGME eligibility requirements as well as all applicable University of Oklahoma Graduate Medical Education requirements.

Eligible applicants include:

• Graduates of an LCME-accredited medical school in the United States
• Graduates of a U.S. college of osteopathic medicine accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA)
• Graduates of a medical school outside of the United States who meet applicable ACGME and University of Oklahoma GME eligibility requirements, including ECFMG certification or other applicable eligibility requirements prior to appointment

To be eligible for ranking:

• Allopathic applicants must have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK
• Osteopathic applicants must have passed either COMLEX Level 1 and Level 2 CE or USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK. Osteopathic applicants are not required to take both examination series.

Applications are reviewed holistically. Examination performance is considered within the broader context of each applicant’s experiences, attributes, accomplishments, and demonstrated competencies.

We value the breadth of perspectives and experiences that residents bring to our program and believe that a learning environment enriched by individuals with varied backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and paths to medicine strengthens resident education and patient care. We seek applicants who will contribute to an inclusive, collaborative, and respectful learning environment and to the communities we serve.

Our residency interviews will be conducted virtually. We look forward to using the interview day as an opportunity to get to know each applicant while also introducing you to our program, our faculty, and what we are building at the University of Oklahoma. Throughout the day, applicants will have the opportunity to meet program leadership and faculty, learn more about our curriculum and clinical training, and ask questions about the residency, OU, and life in Oklahoma City.

We know that choosing a residency is about much more than what can be experienced through a screen. We will also offer an optional in-person second look for applicants who would like to visit Oklahoma City and experience our program firsthand. This will be an opportunity to see our clinical and educational spaces, spend additional time with our faculty and program leadership, explore the OU Health Sciences campus, and get a better sense of Oklahoma City and the community you could call home during residency.

Participation in the second look is entirely optional and will not influence an applicant’s position on our rank list. Whether or not you are able to visit in person, our goal is to make sure you have the information and opportunities you need to determine whether OU is the right place for you to learn, grow, and build your future.

Graduates who successfully complete the University of Oklahoma Emergency Medicine Residency and meet applicable ABEM requirements will be eligible to pursue board certification through the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM).
