Adult Psychiatry Services in OU Williams Pavilion and the Stephenson Cancer Center
The Outpatient Mental Health Service at OU treats adults presenting with a broad range of behavioral and emotional problems. While assigned to this service, residents learn and apply all core-competency based psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological modalities. There is always a psychiatry attending in the clinic, and multiple one-on-one supervisory sessions occur weekly with both psychiatrists and psychologists. Additional highlights include easily accessible opportunities for supervised marital and family therapy, specialty outpatient group therapy, extensive cognitive-behavioral therapies, psychological and neuropsychological testing, and attendance at off-site specialty clinics. PGY-III residents currently complete 3 half-days of adult clinic at OU Williams Pavilion and 1 half-day of either Psycho-Oncology clinic at the Stephenson Cancer Center or Post-Discharge follow-up clinic where our OU Hospital Consult and Liasion team may schedule patients who would otherwise not have access to follow-up care.
Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Services at Women's and Children's Hospital of Oklahoma and OU Williams Pavillion
This integral part of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences incorporates training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Pediatric Psychology, and Prevention Psychology. Our multi-disciplinary Child Psychiatry clinic is the largest in the state. This rotation revolves primarily on inpatient consultation and liaison work with other pediatric specialties, schools, and community organizations. Residents interested in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry also have the option to gain experience in the inpatient Child and Adolescent ward setting. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry clinic is conveniently located on the same floor as the Adult Psychiatry Clinic in the Williams Pavillion Building. PGY-III Residents interested in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry have the option to substitute 2 half-days of adult clinic for Child and Adolescent clinic.
Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC)
The Oklahoma Medical Center has an agreement of affiliation with the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City. This hospital located across the street from the OUHSC campus.The VAMC has 400+ beds and over 160,000 outpatient visits per year. Residents rotate at VAMC for several months in various settings throughout their residency. The VAMC mental health group has tremendous assets, such as large numbers of psychologists integral to our teaching program, a PharmD with neuropsychology training, a substance abuse unit, a geriatric psychiatry inpatient ward, medical elective and selective opportunities, and an outpatient clinic site at both the main Oklahoma City campus and the South Oklahoma City satellite clinic location. The VAMC group is fully committed and integrated with our department with all supervisory faculty holding academic appointments.
Autumn Life Behavioral Center at OU Edmond Medical Center
The Autumn Life Behavioral Center at OU Edmond Medical Center is an inpatient psychiatric unit that aims to address the needs of the geriatric population. This unit provides assessment and evaluation of degenerative disorders (Alzheimer’s and others), memory and cognitive function in senior adults, as well as programs for seniors with mental health concerns. While assigned to this service, residents learn and apply all core-competency based psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological modalities with specific considerations of adjustments that need to be made for the geriatric population. Residents work with an interdisciplinary team to learn to assess all considerations to meet the unique needs of older adults. The Thrive IOP program is also available at OU Edmond Medical Center for this population.
Additional clinical sites are available as well, such as community psychiatric facilities, private psychiatric hospitals and clinics, and others.
