The Biochemistry track is a graduate pathway within the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology that leads to the MS, PhD, or MD/PhD degrees. Students join a collaborative research community where they investigate molecular processes that shape human biology and develop the skills needed for careers in academic science, biotechnology, government research, and the pharmaceutical industry.
Faculty mentors direct well-funded research programs that explore gene expression, cellular signaling, intermediary metabolism, mitochondrial biology, membrane trafficking, structural biology, and macromolecular assembly. This range of strengths gives students the opportunity to work on projects that address fundamental biochemical mechanisms and contribute to advances in biomedical science.
The campus supports high technology research through core facilities that provide access to modern instrumentation and specialized expertise. Students also benefit from active seminar programs across departments and at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. These seminars bring distinguished scientists from academic, technological, and government institutions, giving students the chance to engage with leaders in the field and broaden their scientific perspective.
