Message from the Director

Pathology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is on the move. Our campus is growing rapidly and so has the need for more pathologists and researchers. Over the past five years we have added over a dozen faculty members to support our growing clinical, teaching, and research missions.

We aim to provide balanced training in anatomic and clinical pathology. Our faculty members have expertise in the breadth of the field, including in breast pathology, clinical chemistry, cytopathology, GI pathology, gynecologic pathology, head and neck pathology, hematopathology, dermatopathology, informatics, laboratory management, medical microbiology, molecular genetic pathology, neuropathology, pediatric pathology, and transfusion medicine.

Residents in our program:

  • have six weeks of electives starting in their second year, so they can focus their education in their areas of interest well before fellowship decisions need to be made
  • participate in multidisciplinary tumors boards at the Stephenson Cancer Center, Oklahoma's only for NCI-designated cancer center
  • compete for top fellowships in essentially every subspecialty
  • are prepared for jobs in either private practice and academia

In addition, our trainees are mentored in a supportive environment that values teamwork and professional development.

Besides outstanding training, our program offers much away from work. Affordable and friendly, Oklahoma has a high quality of life and a low cost of living. Places to enjoy in the Oklahoma City metro area include the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art, the Oklahoma City Zoo, the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History, and Science Museum Oklahoma. Heading outdoors, activities in the state’s varied geography span birding, boating, cycling, fishing, hiking, rock climbing, and water skiing.

In sum, we think our program is a great place to learn and thrive. We look forward to receiving your application.
