Jessica Fazendin, MD, FACS, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Fazendin attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Biology. She finished her Doctor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 2013. From there she went on to complete her general surgery residency at Hahnemann Hospital/Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. Dr. Fazendin completed a fellowship in endocrine surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. There she stayed as faculty for 5 years before starting an Endocrine Surgery Program at the University of Oklahoma.
Dr. Fazendin became part of the Division of Surgical Oncology at OU in Spring 2025. Her clinical work focuses on benign and malignant thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disorders in addition to inherited endocrinopathies. In addition to her clinical concentration, she serves as the Vice Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery and the Co-Director for Undergraduate Surgical Education.
Dr. Fazendin has been given several awards for patient care and teaching throughout her career, given by patients, students, trainees, and the Dean of the School of Medicine. Her research interests are in clinical outcomes for endocrine surgery, as well as optimization of the clinical learning environment and team dynamics. She is an active participant in initiatives with the American College of Surgeons [ACS H.O.P.E. (Health Outreach Program for Equity in Global Surgery) in Zambia and Surgeons as Educators], and a member of several education committees (Association for Surgical Education Vice Chairs in Education, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and Society of University Surgeons). She engages and collaborates with the international surgical community and has given talks relating to endocrine surgery and surgical education in Australia, Austria, Poland, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Pakistan, England, and Zambia.
