Dan Brobst, MS - Sr. Staff Research Assistant

Dan received his Bachelors of Science in Biology from Baker University and Master's degree in Pharmacology from the University of Kansas. Dan has extensive experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, and pharmacology. He joined OUHSC in 2010 and Dr. Queimado's lab in 2016. His research interests involve examining health effects of electronic cigarettes, and specifically their role on DNA damage, innate immunity and inflammation.

  Mayilvanan Chinnaiyan, PhD - Postdoctoral Fellow

Mayilvanan earned his PhD in Biomedical Sciences-Endocrinology from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. His PhD dissertation focused on the antidiabetic potential of a phytochemical called ferulic acid and GLUT4 translocation mechanism in type-2 diabetes. Before his PhD, he earned a MS in Biomedical Sciences from University of Madras, and BS in Biotechnology from Periyar University, Salem, India. His current research focuses on the cellular and molecular toxicology associated with the use of diverse tobacco products including combustible tobacco and electronic cigarettes.

  Vengatesh Ganapathy, PhD - Assistant Professor of Research

Vengatesh earned his PhD in Biochemistry-Endocrinology from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. Before his PhD, he earned a MS in Biochemistry from University of Madras, and BS in Biochemistry from Adhiparasakthi College of Science, Kalavai, Vellore District, India. His research focuses on the molecular mechanism underlying cancer development. His current studies analyze the mechanisms by which tobacco products can induce oxidative stress, alter the cellular antioxidant regulation, and influence immune responses. His main aim is to characterize the impact of tobacco and other nicotine delivery devices on human cancer, with the ultimate goal of improving cancer prevention and therapeutics.

  Jimmy Manyanga, PhD - Postdoctoral Fellow

Jimmy earned his PhD in Cell Biology from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. His PhD dissertation focused on the impact of e-cigarettes on cancer risk and chemotherapy resistance in oral epithelial cell lines. As a team member of The Dunn Laboratory at Washington University School of Medicine, his current research focuses on neoantigen discovery and targeting.

  Balaji Sadhasivam, PhD - Postdoctoral Fellow
Balaji earned his PhD in Endocrinology and Animal Biotechnology from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. His interests are on the impact of modifiable risk factors, such as tobacco use, on cancer risk. His current research focuses on the use of DNA damage and other biological markers as predictors of cancer risk. His ultimate goal is to discover a potential tool that will reduce cancer incidence and mortality by contributing to the early detection and diagnosis of pre-cancerous lesions.
