Genetics

Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics, Section of Genetics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. OUHSC Genetics is located in the OU Children's Hospital and we provide comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, testing and screening for infants, children, adolescents and family members who have, or are suspected of having, disorders of genetic, congenital, hereditary or familial origins, including birth defects, syndromes of multiple malformations, inborn errors of metabolism, or familial cancer. Cytogenetic, DNA (gene), and special biochemical testing are arranged, as necessary, after appropriate genetic counseling. Teratogen information service is available as well. Testing for specific genetic disorders can be performed by our Genetics laboratory. Amino or organic acid analysis can be performed by our Genetics Biochemical laboratory.

The Section of Pediatric Genetics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is expanding its research, clinical and diagnostic capabilities. We are actively seeking motivated geneticists to join us in this new phase of growth made possible by our philanthropic partner, the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

We are seeking to fill the following positions, however anyone interested in being part of our growth is welcome to contact us. Informal inquiries are welcome.

  1. Endowed Research Chairs in Genetics: The Children’s Hospital Foundation has endowed three genetics research chairs. Researchers in any area of human / medical genetics with an established track record of nationally-competitive research funding and high-quality research publications will be considered. MDs, PhDs or MD/PhDs [or their equivalent] at the level of Full Professor or Associate Professor are welcome to apply. These positions will be associated with competitive compensation and start-up funds, including necessary research facilities and space, and practicing clinicians will have protected time for research.
  2. Clinical Geneticist: The section of pediatric genetics is seeking an ABMG board certified / board eligible clinical geneticist to join our team. Our clinical team is currently comprised of four clinical geneticists, one PA, and four licensed clinical genetic counselors.
  3. Bioinformatics support for clinical nextgen sequencing facility: Individuals with expertise in bioinformatics relating to clinical applications of next-generation sequencing are highly encouraged to apply.
