Dr. Azeemuddin Ahmed, M.D., MBA, was appointed in March 2025 as the inaugural chair of Emergency Medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and Clinical Service Chief of Emergency Medicine at OU Health, the university’s academic health system. A nationally recognized leader in emergency medicine, Dr. Ahmed brings over 20 years of clinical and academic expertise from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. His experience includes founding and directing Emergency Medical Services divisions and fellowships, leading state EMS programs, and serving as a medical director for major venues. In this role, Dr. Ahmed oversees the department’s clinical, educational and research initiatives, advancing the academic health system’s three-part mission of clinical care, education and research.
A fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Academy of Emergency Medical Services, Dr. Ahmed earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine and completed his residency in emergency medicine at Michigan State University. He also holds an MBA from the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business.
