Dr. David Lee Gordon served as Professor & Chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Oklahoma (OU) Health Sciences Center from 2007 to 2023 where he is currently Professor and Vice Chair of Education.  He received his medical degree from the University of Miami, completed neurology residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, and completed a cerebrovascular diseases fellowship at the University of Iowa.  He has special interest and expertise in medical education, migraine, and stroke—particularly hypercoagulable states.  He has over 30 years of experience in developing and leading academic stroke centers, has served on multiple regional and national stroke panels and committees, and has written numerous articles and book chapters related to stroke.  He has received numerous local and national teaching awards, has been named by his peers among the “Best Doctors in America®” and “Castle Connelly Top Doctors” on numerous occasions, received the Outstanding Physician Award from the Mississippi quality-improvement organization in 1999, received the American Heart Association’s national Award of Meritorious Achievement in 2000, created the MEND (Miami Emergency Neurologic Deficit) Exam, a stroke assessment tool for EMS and nurses, and developed the Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS®) course for EMS and nurses.
