Dr. Mariana Georgeta Varga, M.D. is the Movement Disorder Program Director at OU Health. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders, with particular expertise in deep brain stimulation and neuromodulation therapies for Parkinson’s disease, Dystonia, Essential Tremor, and other related conditions. As an associate professor in the Department of Neurology, she is committed to advancing clinical care through research and education.
Education:
She earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hatieganu.” She completed residency training in radiology in Romania, followed by internal medicine and neurology residencies at OU College of Medicine. She then completed a fellowship in movement disorders at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio.
In addition to her clinical and academic roles, Dr. Varga has served in multiple leadership positions, including as medical director of several movement disorder clinics. She is actively involved in clinical research and has served as principal investigator on numerous studies focused on Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor. She has also contributed to medical education through lectures, mentorship, and curriculum development. Dr. Varga participates in community outreach through educational programs and support groups for patients with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and Huntington’s disease.
