Fellowship Training Program

The Jimmy Everest Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology offers a three-year ACGME-accredited fellowship with extensive, broad based training in both benign hematology and malignancies in children and adolescents. Our program prepares the trainee for a career in either academic medicine, by providing a strong foundation in either basic or clinical research and in a rich and diverse setting of clinical care.  Our program serves the western two-thirds of Oklahoma, providing broad-based clinical exposure including multidisciplinary clinics focused on CNS tumors, Sickle Cell Hemoglobinopathies, Bleeding and Clotting Disorders, and Survivorship.  We actively participate in the Children’s Oncology Group and several other consortiums, conducting both frontline and phase I and II studies.  The three-year curriculum comprises extensive clinical training during the first year, followed by two-years devoted substantially to scholarly activities.  Fellows interested in laboratory based research training have access to research labs throughout the OUHSC campus and, by specific arrangement, research laboratories at OMRF. Clinical research training includes participation in didactic coursework, clinical rounds, case conferences, research seminars and mentored research projects.  Fellows pursuing a clinical investigative career may enroll in the Masters in Clinical Sciences program through the OUHSC School of Public Health.  Upon completion of their training, fellows are eligible for board certification in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Please contact us for further questions about our training program.

Life in Oklahoma City

The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center campus is one of only a few comprehensive health centers in the nation with seven health professional Colleges – Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Graduate Studies – right in the heart of the state capitol, Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma City metro area has great educational opportunities, professional sports, a strong economy, a commitment to the arts, and one of the lowest costs of living in the United States.
