The Pediatric Metabolic Research Program (PMRP) focuses on understanding, preventing, and treating obesity, diabetes, and metabolic diseases in children.Operating as part of the OU Health Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, PMRP combines a dedicated on-site core lab with an active portfolio of NIH-funded studies, bringing together clinical and research faculty around a shared goal: identifying childhood metabolic disease earlier and intervening before it progresses.
Our current research spans maternal effects on early metabolic health, through the MILK study conducted with the University of Minnesota, and novel biomarkers for pediatric metabolic-associated liver disease, studied jointly with our Gastroenterology colleagues. PMRP's core lab supports this work with specialized equipment including DXA, body composition analysis, indirect calorimetry, thermography, pulse wave analysis, and milk analysis available to researchers across the division.
