Judith James, MD, PhD serves as a Professor in the Department of Medicine and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She also serves as a Professor and Program Chair of the Arthritis and Clinical Immunology Program at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. As a board-certified rheumatologist and internationally recognized lupus researcher, she has a special interest in the pathogenesis, prediction, prevention and precision treatment of systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus. After earning her MD and PhD from OUHSC, Dr. James officially joined OUHSC faculty in 1995. She leads an NIAID-funded Autoimmunity Center of Excellence (UM1), NIAMS-funded Rheumatic Disease Research Cores Center (P30), Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources (U54), a collaborative rheumatic disease project with the Cherokee Nation (S06), the national Accelerating Medicines Partnership in Autoimmune and Immune-Mediated Diseases (UC2), an NIAID-funded Autoimmunity Prevention Center and numerous other grant awards. As a member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. James has published over 330 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has received countless awards for her trail-blazing efforts in lupus research.
