Dr. Tan practices ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at the OU Health Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI). His focus is on patients with any periocular, lacrimal, or orbital disease. This includes inflammatory diseases, cancer, and trauma to the area around the eye, as well as aesthetic and rejuvenative enhancements such as blepharoplasty (removal of excess eyelid skin), ptosis repair (droopy eyelid lifting), endoscopic forehead and brow lift, mid-face lift, lower eyelid fat removal, and injectables (Botox, fillers, etc). Dr. Tan sees patients at DMEI’s three Oklahoma City area clinics – the University of Oklahoma (OU) Health Sciences Center location, Northwest Oklahoma City, and Edmond.

A native of New Jersey, Dr. Tan earned his undergraduate degree (major in ceramics and minor in biology) from the University of Delaware, where honors included summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Kappa Phi. He completed his medical studies at Temple University in Philadelphia, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and his ophthalmology residency at DMEI/OU (during which he served as chief resident). He completed a two-year ASOPRS fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery with Ophthalmic Surgeons and Consultants of Ohio in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Tan joined the DMEI/OU faculty in 2018.

In 2023, he assumed the role of Director for the DMEI Global Ophthalmology Program, sustaining and expanding the foundational relationships built by Bradley K. Farris, MD, through over 20 years of global outreach service.  Dr. Tan's primary objective is to establish enduring, high-quality eye care through reciprocal education—empowering local providers by demonstrating techniques that utilize and optimize their regional resources. By bringing and actively involving our DMEI residents in the clinical and surgical care on these outreach missions, he aims to inspire them to grow and contribute to a multi-generational pipeline of global health leaders.

Dr. Tan is a first-generation American, born of immigrant parents from the Philippines with ethnic roots in Southeastern China. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons and exploring the surprisingly diverse and thriving culinary scene in Oklahoma City.
