Katie considers her hometown to be Lucas, Texas. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Biology before attending medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Throughout medical school, Katie served at St. Vincent’s Clinic, a student-run clinic that provides free healthcare and resource connection to underserved patients in Galveston, TX. Her passion for this cause led to her involvement in multiple ways, including serving on the Board of Directors. In all, Katie served over 1,000 hours at St. Vincent’s during medical school and developed a passion for healthcare equity through her experiences there. Outside of her work (and fueling it), Katie loves coffee and has become a self-taught barista. (Foaming milk is harder than it looks!) She enjoys reading and has found that a strong female protagonist is a common theme among her favorites. She stays active through cycling and yoga classes to relieve stress and enjoys time with her admittedly diva-like cats, Squeaks and Captain.
