Clinical/Research Interests:

Dr. Bergner aims to investigate the role nutrition plays in the health and development of infants that are at high risk for growth failure and poor outcomes. She has a particular emphasis on human milk, human milk fortifiers, and early influencers of long-term metabolic health and disease. Dr. Bergner received the Southern Society for Pediatric Research’s Young Investigator in Clinical Science Award for her work evaluating the post-discharge growth, body composition, and neurodevelopment of preterm infants receiving an exclusive human milk diet in the neonatal intensive care unit. Her work in the preterm population complements additional investigations surrounding the clinical care of infants with congenital abnormalities and those requiring intestinal rehabilitation. Utilizing the knowledge gained from research endeavors, Dr. Bergner hopes to further the understanding of dietary factors that impact growth and development in vulnerable patient populations and improve the means to deliver nutrients to them.

Dr. Bergner also has a great passion for medical education with a particular interest in professional development of trainees and mentorship. She is involved in several committees and organizations that focus on this mission.
