Amy M. Cohn, PhD

Associate Professor, General and Community Pediatrics

Associate Professor, Health Promotion Research Center, OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center

Director of Training, Health Promotion Research Center

Dr. Cohn is in the basic science track. Her research focuses on mental health, substance use and tobacco use comorbidities among youth and young adults. Her funded research from the Food and Drug Administration Center for Tobacco Products is designed to inform tobacco prevention and policy regulation by measuring the appeal for flavored tobacco products among young adults. Her research activities are housed in the Health Promotion Research Center’s innovative Tobacco Regulatory Science Laboratory in Research Park. The Tobacco Regulatory Science Laboratory is specifically designed for the observation and measurement of tobacco use behavior in real-time. Dr. Cohn’s work also focuses on analysis of large national and statewide datasets to assess correlates and consequences of flavored tobacco product use (including menthol cigarette smoking and flavored cigar use), disparities in tobacco use across vulnerable groups and racial/ethnic minorities, and the co-use of tobacco products with alcohol and cannabis. Another line of funded work has focused on cannabis and tobacco use and co-use, and understanding the public health impact of cannabis legalization on youth and young adult attitudes about and susceptibility to use cannabis and other substances of abuse. She has been continuously funded by the NIH since 2013.

As Director of Training at the Health Promotion Research Center, Dr. Cohn manages the curricula development for training seminars and oversees the training activities of graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty.
