The Division of Critical Care Neurology exemplifies the academic excellence at OU Health, integrating high-acuity patient care, rigorous education, and impactful research. Anchored by the state-of-the-art 23-bed Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), the division provides comprehensive care for patients with life-threatening neurological and neurosurgical conditions, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, status epilepticus, neuromuscular crises, etc.

Academic Mission

1. Clinical Excellence

Our neurointensivists and advanced practice providers (APPs) deliver 24/7 specialized care using advanced neuromonitoring tools, including continuous EEG, transcranial Doppler, intracranial pressure monitoring, and brain tissue oxygenation systems. The NSICU is a critical component of OU Health’s Comprehensive Stroke Center, Level I Trauma Center, and Epilepsy Center, ensuring seamless multidisciplinary collaboration.

2. Education & Training

The division is deeply committed to academic development. We host monthly didactic sessions, journal clubs, and case-based lectures tailored for neurology residents, fellows, and APPs. Faculty also lead simulation workshops and bedside teaching rounds, promoting a dynamic learning environment. Our team contributes to the broader academic community through presentations at local, national, and international conferences, including abstract and oral presentations at major neurocritical care and stroke meetings.

3. Research & Innovation

Faculty members are actively involved in clinical trials, quality improvement initiatives, and peer-reviewed publications. Our research spans acute stroke interventions, neuro-monitoring technologies, and outcomes in neurocritical care. The division’s scholarly output reinforces our role as a leader in advancing the science of neurocritical care.
