Macy Nigh Whitener Visiting Professorship Endowment

The Macy Nigh Whitener Visiting Professorship Endowment was established by the Children's Hospital Foundation to bring progressive research and education about diabetes to the state of Oklahoma and in honor of the much-loved governor of the state, Governor George Nigh, and his grand-daughter Macy Nigh Whitener. This endowment was given in the form of an annual Visiting Professorship.  Beginning in 2002, a prominent professor has visited our campus to lecture and interact with research scholars, fellows, medical students, residents, and diabetes staff on campus. In addition to expanding knowledge for those on campus, the lectures are open to the public for anyone interested in attending.

Satish K. Garg, MBBS, MD, DM  -   Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics, Director of Adult Diabetes Program, Garg Endowed Clinical and Research Chairs and Editor-in-Chief, Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics at Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, University of Colorado Denver.  He lectured on “Future Technologies and Adjunctive Therapies for Type 1 Diabetes to Improve Outcomes” at Pediatric Grand Rounds on April 25, 2018.

Philip S. Zeitler, MD, PhD, a Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Sciences, Head, Section of Pediatric Endocrinology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.  He lectured on “Youth-Onset Type 2 Diabetes:  What have we learned from major clinical trials and where do we go from here?” at Pediatric Grand Rounds on May 17, 2017.

Neil H. White, MD, CDF, a Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Washington, University, St. Louis, MO.  He lectured on “Glycemic Control in Diabetic Children:  What I’ve Learned Over 3 Decades” at Pediatric Grand Rounds on April 13, 2016.  To watch video of his Grand Rounds Lecture, click here.

Mark A. Sperling, MBBS, a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh lectured on "The Changing Spectrum of Childhood Diabetes Mellitus" at Pediatric Grand Rounds on March 19, 2014.

Patrick Catalano, M.D., a Professor at Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio lectured on “Metabolic Adaptations During Pregnancy" at Pediatric Grand Rounds on April 12, 2012.
Mary-Elizabeth Patti, MD, an Assistant Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Harvard Medical School and Director, Affymetrix Genomics Core Facility, Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA lectured on “Diabetes Risk Across the Lifespan" at Pediatric Grand Rounds on August 3, 2010.
Fran Kaufman, MD, a Distinguished Professor of Pediatrics and Communications--Keck School of Medicine and Annenberg School of Communications of USC and the Head of Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology, Metabolism--Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Former President, American Diabetes Association lectured on “Cardiovascular Disease Risk in Pediatric Diabetes" at Pediatric Grand Round on April 2, 2009.

David A. D'Alessio, MD, a Professor of Medicine & Director of the Division of Endocrinology--University of Cincinnati and Acting Chief of Endocrine Service--Cincinnati VA Medical Center lectured on “Regulation of Glucose Tolerance by the GI Hormone and GLP-1: Multiple Effects and Multiple Mechanisms" at Pediatric Grand Round on February 21, 2008.

Desmond Schatz, MD, a Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology & Associate Chair--University of Florida College of Medicine and Medical Director of Diabetes Center--University of Florida College of Medicine lectured on “Future of Type 1 Diabetes - Prevention and Cure" at Pediatric Grand Rounds on May 18, 2006.

William V. Tamborlane, MD, a Professor of Pediatrics--Yale School of Medicine, Chief of Children's Diabetes Center--Yale School of Medicine and known as the "Father of Insulin Pumps” lectured on "Fulfilling the Promise of Insulin Pump Therapy in Childhood Diseases" at Pediatric Grand Rounds on January 13, 2005.

Dana Hardin, MD, the Medical Director of Diabetes Program--Dallas Children's Hospital lectured on “Recent Advances in Diabetes Research: New Technology and New Hope" at Pediatric Grand Round on August 14, 2003.
David S. Ludwig, MD, PhD, the Director of Obesity Program and Associate Director of GCRC--Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School lectured on “Novel Dietary Treatment for Obesity and Diabetes in Children" at Pediatric Grand Round on November 21, 2002.

 

CMRI Jack & Evelyn Trachtenberg Visiting Professorship Endowment
The Jack and Evelyn Trachtenberg childhood diabetes endowment provides the resources to enhance diabetes research and teaching in the state of Oklahoma by inviting national leaders in the field of diabetes research to speak on the campus of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  It was established in 2004 by the generosity of the Larry and Mary Trachtenberg family and by Children's Hospital Foundation.

Yoel Sadovsky MD cropped 152x179 Yoel Sadovsky, MD, Executive Director at the Magee-Womens Research Institute in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He is also Associate Dean of Women’s Health Research and Reproductive Sciences at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  He lectured on “Placental-Maternal-Fetal Communication Vesicles, and Pregnancy Health on May 20, 2019.  

Sara Pinney, MD, an attending physician in the Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  She lectured on “Epigenetic Mechanisms linking Intrauterine Growth Restriction to Type 2 Diabetes” on Friday, May 29, 2015.

Michael Goran, PhD, a Professor of Preventive Medicine, Physiology and Biophysics at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California.  He is also the Director of the Childhood Obesity Research Center.  He lectured on "How Growing Up Sweet Can Turn Sour: Sugars, Obesity and Metabolic Risk During Growth" at Pediatric Grand Rounds on May 28, 2014.
Jane Lynch, MD, an Associate Professor at the University of Texas San Antonio, lectured on “Hypertension in the Well Rounded Child” at Pediatric Grand Rounds on January 16, 2013.
Kristina Rother, MD, a Senior Staff Clinical Investigator at the Clinical Endocrinology Branch at NIDDK, lectured on "Bridging the Divide: NIH Clinical Trials in Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes" on April 11, 2008.

 

Kenneth Copeland Visiting Professorship Endowment

The Kenneth C. Copeland, MD Endowed Visiting Professorship in Diabetes was established by the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center in 2017 to annually host a prominent faculty member from another research institution who is focused on diabetes and diabetes related fields to contribute to and enrich the intellectual environment of the University and HHDC.  The honor is named for Dr. Kenneth Copeland, a former director of HHDC – Children’s, Vice Chair of OUHSC’s Department of Pediatrics, and Chief of the Section of Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology.

David B. Allen, MD - a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Head of the Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology.  He lectured on “Lessons Learned from the hGH Era” at Pediatric Grand Rounds on November 20, 2020.
Erica Eugster, M.D. – a Professor of Pediatrics, Section Director for Pediatric Endocrinology at Riley Children’s Health at Indian University.  She will be lecturing on “Stopping Puberty:  Why, When and How?” at Pediatric Grand Round on December 5, 2018.
Phillipe Backeljauw, MD - a Professor of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Center for Pediatric and Adult Turner Syndrome Care, Director, Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Program Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  He lectured on “Clinical Care for Girls and Women with Turner Syndrome – A Review of the New Practice Guideline” at Pediatric Grand Rounds on December 6, 2017.
