Application Process

In recruiting residents, we pay particular attention to the character of candidates with emphasis on a commitment to the principles of excellence, collegiality, and innovation.

The process for applying to the OU neurology residency program is as follows:

  • We only receive applications through ERAS and we participate in the NRMP match
  • The deadline for submission of applications is November 1
  • Our program is categorical; residents who match in OU neurology are automatically accepted into OU internal medicine for the preliminary year
  • For international medical graduates:
    • No U.S. experience is required
    • We sponsor J1 visas, but not H1B visas
    • One cannot begin residency with an EAD—candidates may apply with an EAD, but must have either a green card or visa prior to starting the residency
  • We give priority to interviewing candidates who pass the following screening criteria:
    • USMLE step 1 with passing score on first attempt
    • USMLE step 2 greater than 230
    • Evidence of interest in neurology, for example,
      • Research or publication in a neurologic field
      • Extra or elective rotations in neurology during medical school
      • Active participation in SIGN (Student Interest Group in Neurology)
      • Previous neurology residency or portion thereof
    • For medical school graduates > 10 years ago, neurology clinical experience within last 5 years
