Welcome to the Department of Molecular Genetics and Genome Sciences is forging a bold new path in biomedical research. As one of the newest basic science departments at OU Health Sciences, we are dedicated to exploring the fundamental building blocks of life and transforming that knowledge into real-world solutions that improve human health.

Under the leadership of Dr. Jun Li, a nationally recognized genome scientist and computational biologist from the University of Michigan Medical School, we are building an exceptional community of scientists who examine how genetic variations and epigenetic regulation drive development, function, and disease. We envision that our research will span the full spectrum of contemporary genome sciences, from cancer genetics to AI-powered drug discovery, from single-cell sequencing to integration of large-scale biological data suing advanced computational methods.

Training the Next Generation of Scientists

As we build up our research and collaboration portfolio, we are also launching robust training programs to equip the next generation of geneticists and biomedical researchers. New master’s and Ph.D. programs will offer immersive, mentored research experiences in a collaborative academic health center environment. Whether decoding inherited diseases, mapping gene function in tissues, or exploring the epigenetic consequences of lifestyle and environment, students in our programs will be part of a transformative mission to advance science and serve society. More details coming soon.
